I couldn’t get away last Friday
and my absence, still, I rue,

When autumn asked about my better half
Your name I struggled to say,
Because a man shouldn’t fall in love
Isn’t it what we all were taught?
To let a woman know your unaltered feelings
With peril is such a revelation fraught,

That’s how it unfolds on the silver screen,
The emotional fella garners her sympathy
while the badboy steals the scene,
Oh, you disagree? Well, by all means
I invite you to state your case,

within sight of the Cone Mountain ridge,
Your face is reflected in my window shield
as I cross a leaf-strewn bridge
I’ve missed you, the days have passed heartlessly
