“Forgotten Mom, This is for You”
Dear Mother,
Last Mother’s Day, was it your loneliest of days?
A son or daughter lost to the war or despair,
Did cancer devastate the child’s life you once birthed?
Denied a treasure trove of family moments to share
Or were you simply neglected by kin ungrateful
Did they forget the countless sacrifices you’ve made?
Daughter won’t forgive you your relationship mistakes
The selfishness of a spoiled son still refuses to fade
Yet, of all your critics, might the harshest be you?
After all, motherhood never came with a blueprint,
The most difficult of all humanly jobs has been yours
For far too long you’ve gone without compliment
Forgotten mother, forsaken mother, neglected mother
It’s OK, you’ve done all that you know how to do,
The unsung is often the most worthy of praise
Were you taken from us, my god, the day we’ll rue
Mother, have we told you lately that we love you
Forgive us, please, our having taken you for granted,
Our own struggles have often blinded us to your need
When our very success stems from the love you planted
I haven’t forgotten you, God-given woman, no
I take this moment to honor you beyond a token day,
My prayers are you, thoughts of you, I celebrate you
Mother, to you I dedicate this special Pamper-Her-Friday
Love Always,
