When the power outage struck late last night
I immediately went into improvisation mode,
Your skin temperature rose so humidly hot
Determined was I to usher a breeze semi-cold

Enough that a few hours sleep were still within reach
My hand resting on your pulsing navel all the while,
Daybreak, gosh, did it appear much too soon
I chose not to waken you . . . that I may chance rile

An anxious spirit which may prompt you to leave
At a moment’s time when I most needed you to stay,
The many mornings I’ve woken to a still-puffed pillow
Having imagined a gentle head as yours would lay

No, not a waterbed for you, but a bed on water
Before sunrise, this makeshift isle will simply float,
Woman, you’re my lovely Sunday morning castaway
And I’m your eager rescuer with a crafted love note

Authored alongside a culinary surprise has this writer
Taken time to indulge my romantic-chef skills,
Grilled petite steak, fluffy scrambles draped in cheddar
Vanilla/nutmeg-infused waffle…the hot syrup feels

So luscious to taste guaranteed no morsel you’ll waste
Sip the fresh-squeezed summer juice, it’s nature’s choice,
It wouldn’t be morning without a cup of hot mocha joe
Butter-pecan hints in its body will make you voice

The warmest hello to which I’ll be inclined to reply:
‘Morning, angel, I hope this makes up for lack of sleep’
And as the sunrise reveals itself in your eyes
May you discover the level of my caring is deep

Breakfast in bed, woman, welcome to breakfast at Roy’s
I appreciate your having stayed and given me the chance,
I’m easy, girl, easy I’m yours like a Sunday morning
Don’t leave … for there’s more to this summer’s romance . . . .
