“An Elegant Proposition”

I have a rather elegant suggestion, Love
I want to hold your hand by the lake,
People do so little of that anymore?
Let’s defy the odds for autumn’s sake

Shed the urbanite, your shoulders are so tight
I have the most timely antidote,
Sit next to me while I pamper thee
We deserve a moment to emote

On one another, you may just discover
there’s a lush language in our silence,
I’m your catcher in the rye under October sky
Loving you with a spiritual violence

Defenseless you are to the wonderment
that is this new fall season,
Look yonder to the tapestry
Our Creator has given us ample reason

To respect the elements, not neglect the elements
that live without and within,
When a man and woman behold nature
Only there does true love begin

Yeah, it’s a fairly simple proposition
A gentle handhold by the lake,
But transformational is our company
in this steal-away moment we take

To honor one another; am I the perfect lover?
What, you don’t want to grant me my props?
Don’t look away, woman, with that helpless smile
I haven’t pulled out all the stops . . .

No, not yet, my autumn kiss you haven’t met
We can reserve that for when you’re ready,
I’m a willing partner in at-your-pace courtship
Let’s declare here and now: We’re going steady

A retro romance gives us the ideal chance
to explore the many secrets of autumn,
Remember the dress with accessories in the window?
Yeah, angel . . . I went and bought ’em

Soon to arrive at your doorstep
For special delivery later today,
I’m there at 8–in complementary colors
I’m taking you out for Pamper-Her-Friday.

Be ready.
