“The Morning Pamperer Awakens Her”
On my drive to work this morning, funny thing this:
I approached a nonproverbial fork in the road,
Veer left and classes await; veer right and on to you
Woman, I’ve decided to put academia on hold
Only a distraction would be my thoughts of you
And I’m a learned man of enviable focus,
But I awoke with your name indelibly on my brain
Conjuring your dreamy likeness with a hocus-pocus
It took over me, this thing you are, about mid-route
My hands steady on the wheel at ten and two,
Michael Franks in my playlist began crooning to boot
Woman, I’m overcome, I just need to see you
I long to put gentle hands on you in the morning air
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is calling us at the ocean’s shore,
Should you feign a sudden fever the job might care
But, come now, you need a reprieve from the office bore
A summer’s morning rendezvous for just us two
Spontaneity, they say, is among the spices of life,
We’ll let it linger into brunch and if it passes through lunch
All the better the realization that our company’s rife
With fun, so much fun, and so much zeal and zest
As I open my motorcar door you helplessly smile,
That quiet search for chivalry, woman, I end your quest
Naturally it comes to me, no need for a romantic file
Mentally stowed away for a rain-or-shine day . . .
Not so, mine are the instincts inbred foreverlast,
Our heritage is one of kings loving queens to convey
for generations hence our past is indeed a sacred past
That it may never die, angel, our summer romance is nigh
We have a date with destiny to the Spanish Isles,
Yes, we’re jetting continent to continent on the fly
And on to Rio to witness the mastery of Simone Biles
Remember, it’s not where you go but whom you’re with
Our romantic options? There’s an endless array,
My weekend has opened itself to you
There’s something magic about this Pamper-Her-Friday . . .
You feel It?
