“Before Summer Ends”
What has been your summer’s romance experience
thus far? Have great expectations gone unmet?
How many dates has your calendar been too busy for?
Is there an ask in particular you’d like to reset?
You realize summer can be as unforgiving as beautiful
Only takes one sunset in the arms of a chosen man,
To render the emptiness of summer days now past
A distant memory as we create footprints in the sand
The most stable homeowner can be spiritually homeless
Emotionally and romantically homeless, might that be you?
Canine company, girlfriends and digital flix for company
Why must tender moments of summer love be few?
Woman, I wanna run away with you, go astray with you
Better yet, why don’t you run awry into these arms of mine,
You’ve tried the others but your soul somehow wanders
Because the truth in your heart has already drawn its line
Your fragrance, I wonder, your hidden treasures I won’t plunder
Your trust and my conscience would not forgive me no end,
Hot August nights may intensify two bodies in heat
A cool drink of spring water for this cauldron we’ll fend
Off the pretextual desires but when the asexual expires
Romance is unleashed, free touch radicals are loosed,
There’s only one for whom your body unlocks the gate
Vodka or gin no matter, woman, I’m bringing the juice
Frozen yogurt cocktails are summer never-fails
Romantic acoustic guitar strings for you I’ll strum,
To play an endless rift on you, girl, I’m so adrift in you
Your bottled kisses saved for summer? Damn, I want some
Close your wondrous opal eyes while I unfurl the sails
You and I on the mid-seas, can you feel the breeze?
I wanna hold you topside, the seafarer’s oath I’ll abide
As you recline in my arms, ever so gently I’ll squeeze
I want you to take my captain’s hat and ivory sweater
I’m a privileged co-navigator in your thrall after all,
We’ll sail into the moonlight, sipping mariner martinis
’til the sunrise beckons? It’s your option, your call
Great expectation for summer need not be fiction
Pamper-Her-Friday compels us that it not go unmet,
The dog days of summer we’ll let the others suffer
There’s a romance in August that awaits us yet.
