“Autumn In Her Eyes”
Should this fall note be found amid the rustling leaves
I pray it nestles in the palms of a woman in Autumn,
Lose herself in lyrics my bare-naked soul giveth
The well from which it derives is without bottom
A river runs through it, leaves float along a stream
This chill in the air is the distance between us,
Have you ever met a fall-loving man in Autumn?
The sole passenger am I on the coming autobus
It stops at the Pacific Electric Trail—mount-top
Among the fragrant knotty pines and the sycamores,
Away from the asphalt jungle, colors lost to smog
A nature-cleansed space where the new season’s yours
Thoughts fall where they may, it’s like a second May
Every leaf is a flower begging we admire its hue,
You, too, woman, have changed with the west wind
Your eyes, they, they’ve turned emotionally anew
I can’t put my finger on it, but something’s there
A love affair, is it, seeking you and me this season?
It’s in the air, woman, like morning dew in your hair
The perfect scarf and a beanie for you, my reason…
…is found in your eyes, those come-pamper-me eyes
Amid the rustling leaves may you find my fall note,
My silent prayer: it nestles in your fingers in Autumn
Know, you must, love lives in each word I wrote
Have you ever met a warm, caring, fall-loving man?
I’m here.
Autumn.
