“Bare Feet and Prosecco”
Seldom have I wondered what may inhabit
a woman’s mind as mid-February approaches,
A race between anxiety and anticipation
Susceptible might you be as love encroaches
Your don’t-let-him-get-close comfort zone
Flowers are trivial, chocolates melt away,
What’s love got to do with it, you ask yourself
Isn’t it just another e-commerce day?
An edible arrangement atop your desk;
A Cartier box in signature powder-blue hue;
Sunset reservations for your favored bistro . . .
Are a sample of the things a thoughtful man can do
Let’s take it a step further and get outta dodge
Run away with me, woman, in the spirit of elope,
A getaway to an isle by whose waters we’ll lodge
This shy, poetic and romantic misanthrope . . .
. . . is asking for your hand while blue waters and sand
are backdrop to a lone table dressed in white,
Dinner in bare feet with Prosecco semi-sweet
To you would be my honor this poem to recite:
Were the end of my days imminently near
The second to the last with you shall I dine,
As the moon gives way to final midnight clear
My destiny is defined by your acceptance of mine
Should Wednesday, untenable the day, not work
We’ll delay our rendezvous—post-holiday,
So determined am I to win your heart
My romance is even sweeter on Pamper-Her-Friday
Will you be my Valentine?
