“Black-Girl Magic Needs Romance”
Was it last year that you attended
a singles’ concert for that special occasion?
With all your girlfriends entouraged
Woman, you managed a romantic evasion
There was laughter and myriad girl-banter
And skinny-olive martinis galore,
The stage performer, oh, was he sexy
Though quietly you wanted a little more
In fact your craving was quite different
If your truth were to be truthfully told,
Your mind escaped that hot, sweaty venue
and ventured into the winter night’s cold
Of February was your heart contrary
Though black-girl magic is truly real,
Mocha-man mystique: there’s something to it
Can I share with you how heavenly it feels?
Give me the day or give me the night
Let me take you into the California breeze,
The lush viewscapes of the desert valley
Into my company your virgin heart shall ease
An exquisite table, something like a fable
You may even question your very own eyes,
Let your hair down, we’ll be in nature’s sound
As we sip bubbly beneath the Pacific skies
You want a man at full attention, don’t you?
Tell me your romantic story, I’m all ears,
I’ll be the interviewer; you, the interviewee
Our time will only grow better as sunset nears
A black knight in shiny, romantic armor? Fiction
Yet in every fiction lies a grain of truth,
To hell with what your girlfriends said last year
Woman, I write this ask because I’m your proof
That romance still lives in the heart of a man
Right here, right now, woman, I’m your Valentine,
If you feel me within, somewhere within your heart
Then tell me, I need you to say you’ll be mine…
Say it.
Woman, say it….
