Ever wondered what happened to the founder of Black Entertainment Television, Bob Johnson, after he sold BET to Viacom, not to mention his Charlotte Bobcats to Michael Jordan—both at handsome profits?

Apparently RLJ Entertainment is his next billion-dollar idea. RLJE is a premium digital subscription TV service that distributes and licenses entertainment content. Its branded channels include Acorn TV (British TV), Acacia, and Urban Movie Channel (UMC).

The sweet spot in this venture—and what I consider a stroke of genius on Johnson’s part—is his ownership of 64% of Agatha Christie Limited, which manages the literary and media rights to the famous and beloved English crime novelist. Christie’s work is timeless and still enjoys global acclaim.

This transaction by Mr. Johnson reminds me of Michael Jackson’s genius when he purchased the Beatles’ music library. Both investments have only increased in value over time—and will continue to do so.

Autumn is a great time for new investments, as the season changes and augurs new ideas, fireplace-on-the-weekend settings, cappuccinos at poetry readings, hand-holding with that special someone…

…and a little pre-holiday gift-giving that sets a beautiful fall tone: In this case, a sizeable tranche of RLJE stocks to add to your equity assets. At under $5 per, they’re a steal considering the company’s only five years old. Johnson’s just getting started.

And so are we.

Can I Pamper You Friday?

With fall having finally set in here in the Inland Valley, the eagerness with which I intend to pamper you with autumn affection is brimming.

Let’s start this evening, shall we?

The stock market has entered frothy territory and I’ve elected to liquidate several holdings before the correction breaks. Ready cash will be crucial going forward as market opportunities arise after the sell-off.

The Bitcoin and Ethereum mania is highly enticing, even more now that Amazon is wading in. I’ve elected to cash out, however, as I research further. My instincts continue to signal caution. They’ve never let me down. An investor has never lost money by selling too quickly at a profit.

One investment that has been stellar for me, among the others, is Icahn Enterprises. Named for the legendary corporate activist, IEP pays an enviable $1.50 per/share dividend and the next payout should be announced in a few days. I’m allocating more funds to shares as they continue to show impressive earnings, especially in this most recent quarter.

So where does the pampering come in?

Well, the new iPhone X is en route. The destination? Your doorstep. By drone.

More importantly, a block of Apple shares has been added to your brokerage account. I advise you to hold onto them past $200+ per—they’re well on their way. In fact, don’t sell. They’ll double in due time.

For me? Well, I’m in no hurry to upgrade my cheap Android. The financial reports I read daily don’t require a high-tech handset. As long as we can text one another in autumn, I’m good.

It’s OK. It’s quite alright. You don’t have to … no, to hell with good grammar … you ain’t gotta think of me.

I’m the very least of your thoughts in these trying times. You’re going through so much. You’re enduring the unthinkable: Hurricanes, earthquakes, work, a potential nuclear conflagration between North Korea and the U.S.

You’re going through so very much.

And now summer is leaving us, leaving our turbulent, volatile, hours-on-end, endless-lovemaking, wouldn’t-trade-it-for-the-world romance in its wake.

So much is demanded of you now. I’m the absolute least of your contemplations in this moment. I’m fully aware.

Dear Chrishtine,

I haven’t married.

I need to see truth in a woman’s eyes.

My flaw is I’m the pampering type. Sharks devour my kind. Heartless women flog the hearts of my ilk and leave them by the wayside—a form of punishment for my holding on to chivalry in a modern world that couldn’t give a damn.

I don’t let on—openly—my generous romanticism. I haven’t put a face to my pampering proclivity. A reluctance, it is, to reveal a fiercely hidden vulnerability to the wrong beautiful woman. There’s absolutely nothing wrong about your beauty, Chrishtine. It’s nothing short of majestic, your aura, your very essence.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the visual you, woman, the social-media scent of you. I’m holistically captivated by the presence of you, the emotional nearness of you.

But as my luck would have it, you’re spoken for. A cruel romantic irony. And summer is about to leave us without so much as a formal goodbye.

The ones who intrigue me are invariably betrothed. Knotted to a commitment not always of her choosing, but a vow taken nonetheless. The ones whom I intrigue are usually taken. Taken by time, circumstance, predicament. Taken by youth—an unspoken fear that the romantic one would possibly not arrive sometime in the distant future.

I understand.

But summer doesn’t care. It’s about to leave us both.

It’ll simply leave us with the thought of one another. And perhaps that’s enough. To ask for more is beyond the pale. I have no right.

But I can pamper you from afar. Left to my own devices, I can pamper you from a distance. And I know, I just know, you can feel my gifts. From afar.
